Late 1880s Victorian gothic style mourning or mantle jacket in absolutely superb antique condition. The glossy black silk jacket has two long front tails, known as lappets, both of which are detailed with a scrolling, sequined border. There are no arm cinches as such, and the majority of the work falls to the back of the jacket where it has a beautiful collar that is edged in sequins and elaborate lace appliques. There is a frilled hemline and also additional ribbon work edging the bottom of the rounded borders. It is fully lined in silk and fastens with a hook and eye at the collar-line.
Perfect for the costumer or collector, they can also be worn over more modern attire such as polo neck jumpers and trousers. It's in extraordinary vintage condition with absolutely no issues whatsoever - the silk is as fresh as the day it was made. There is no fade or rips. The dress maker's label has been lost to time but this is high quality piece. It will fit a full range of sizes from small to extra-large.
